Re: Burma's Refugee Campaign at the U.N.General Assembly 1996
Please find enclosed report regarding with current situation of the displaced people of Burma. I have also submitted the report to the Uthe report to the UNited Nations General Assembly, the Secretary-General and U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
In this connection, I appeal you and your organization to write to the Secretary-General and United Nations General Assembly in the support of creating a Safety Zone in Burma and also to send a peace-keeping mission to Burma.
As some of you may be aware that the SLORC is reportedly refusing to accept the appointment of new Special Rapporteur, Mr Rajsoomer Lallah, on the ground that it is appointed by the Commission on mission on Human Rights (news enclosed in the report). This appears to be to prevent the Special Rapporteur from visiting the site of internally displaced people in Karenni and Shan States. The relocated sites are reportedly in egregious situations.
Finally, I thank you for your continuing interest in Burma matters.

Re: Situation of Burma's refugees and displaced people
As a Burmese refugee in Australia, I submit the Secretary-General the report, "Towards Political Solution to Burma's Refugees Problem", regarding with the current situation of displaced people of Bur;ma. I have also submitted the report to th report to the United Nations General Assembly and U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
As the Secretary-General may aware, the Burmese military government has again making mass arrest of the opposition members of the National League for Democracy at this weekend. These arrests were made in order to prevent the National League for Democracy from holding the congress that commemorate the 8th founding anniversary. I extend my appeal for your urgent attention to this matter.
With regards to the solution to the problems of Burma' of Burma's refugees, the SLORC has several time refused to take the initiatives from diplomatic community. It is quite clear now that the SLORC will not respond to the quiet-diplomatic persuasions. I therefore request the U.N. Secretary- General and the Security Council to urgently create the so-called Safety Zones for refugees and displaced persons. I also ask the Secretary- General to authorize to send a U.N. Peace-keeping mission to Burma.
I also request that the Secretary-General give U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees a fugees a necessary mandate to protect the internally displaced people in Burma.

Re: Situation of Burma's refugees and displaced people
I am a Burmese national presently residing in Adelaide, Australia. Together with this appeal letter, I submit the report regarding with current situation of displaced people of Burma, "Towards Political Solution to the Burma's Refugee Problem", to the attention of Mr President and United Nations General Assembly.
As has bees has been noted in the report, present situation of human rights in Myanmar is threatening the peace and stability of people of Myanmar and, consequently, the region of Southeast Asia. Currently, there have been 95,000 refugees and 600,000 displaced people within Thailand. There are also 50,000 Burma-Muslim minority refugees living in camps in Bangladesh since 1992, with 10,000 more recently arrived to the border area. I therefore call upon you and U.N. General Assembly to create the safety zones in Myanmar for refugees/displaced persons. I also request U.N. General Assembly to authorize to send a peace-keeping mission to Myanmar.
Because of government's practice of forced relocation of local population, there is growing threat of further outflows of displaced people within and across international border. Furthermore, the uprooted villagers within Myanmar are reported to be facing shortage of food, medicine and the lack of shelter. I call upon you to send U.N. Special Rapporteur for Myanmar, Mr Rajsoomer Lallah, to these relocated sites to investigate e the situation. I also request that the President and United Nations General Assembly give U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees a necessary mandate to protect and assist the internally displaced people in Burma.
I also call your attention to the recent arrest of the members of National League for Democracy. The authorities have arrested 559 members of NLD party in order to prevent them from holding a meeting on 27-29 September 1996. I call upon the U.N. General Assembly to denounce such unlawful act and to request the milititary authorities to release all those detained immediately.
