Put yourself in Indonesian's shoes

Just imagine this. A smuggler's boat looks like just this one carrying illicit-drugs in the stead was to have landed on the Australian soil. The Australian Federal Police and Custom Officers begun questioning the Indonesian drug smuggler. To their horror, the Border Dept. and Officers found out that bringing that drug smuggler to an Australian court would have threatened government's political survival. Therefore, the government minister had decided just to put "sugar back on the table".

Australian Government's bribery payments to people smugglers

Australian Government's bribery payment to people smugglers: This Senate submission from Queensland University (Sub. 8, total 19 pages) has given more details about how the DIBP may violate various criminal laws, both domestically and internationally. The submission supports a position that an investigation should take place and is not dependent upon the consent of the Attorney-General.

Labor, Liberal and Mandatory Detention Policy

Labor, Liberal and Mandatory Detention Policy: Recently, we -- the general public -- were "educated" by the mass media here in Australia that the Labor party was the initiator of mandatory detention policy . True, Paul Keating's Labor government had started mandatory detention policy for boatpeople. I can still remember the 'heat' about asylum-seekers debate at that time in 1990s. For the record, I applied for (onshore) refugee status in 1992, which was granted in 1993.

The Irony of Australian Government's "Tough on Crimes"

The Irony of Australian Government's Tough on Crimes: Never negotiate with terrorists, Never give in to blackmails, Never play into the hands of people smugglers ? Nope, Nope, Nope, Never! ..... Really?

" 23. The government has sought to justify tremendous cruelty as being necessary to fight the 'evil' people smugglers and to 'smash their business model'. It would be extraordinary if the government was now paying those same individuals to turn boats around and smuggle people elsewhere..." -- Sub 10. Human Rights Law Centre, Melbourne.

Tilting at Canberra Windmills

Before the Senate Committee in 2002 , said I, "Mr Chairman and committee members, you no doubt find it disturbing when you hear about the behavior of human smugglers. You are disturbed when human smugglers exploit refugees and asylum seekers. Your are distressed when human smugglers make money out of these vulnerable people. You feel outraged when human smugglers show callous disrespect for the well being of their human cargo. You find human smugglers despicable because they make a profit out of vulnerable people, such as refugees.

The Cowards of Australia

The Cowards of Australia: In these days and age of sophisticated and widely connected global media, the news items come and go with the rolling screens of my facebook page. Of course, we routinely rant about our political leaders just like this FB postings . Many express their disgust about the exploitative nature of Scott Morisson's comment as: bigoted, racist, idiotic and so forth (all 67 comments, I believe).

A Lie is a 'Lie' and a Crime is a 'Crime'

A lie is a "LIE" and A crime is a "CRIME": Just a week ago, former "Children Overboard" minister Peter Reith had an interview with ABC. He persistently deny his responsibility on this LIE; has no decency to acknowledge the racist Liberal/Coalition Government had made the scapegoat out of those Iraqi refugees. Whether any of the political scumbags would have failed to acknowledge it, I see the "Children Overboard" 'LIE' as a 'LIE'.
